One of my favorite Christmas traditions that I started with my children was baking cookies during Christmas time. There is something special about listening to Christmas music, in our pajamas, cold weather and baking Christmas cookies. This is the absolute perfect combination!
One of my favorite cookies to bake are the Christmas Sugar cookies. I was taught how to make these years ago from a teacher of my daughter’s school. I have made a few minor changes and absolutely love this recipe. I love using the cookie cutters and involve my children in the baking process. My girls love to put on their apron and be totally involved. I am one to not like the different colorings in the icing. This is the only part I skip.
I make the royal icing from the recipe of Food Network – Barefoot Contessa here: royal icing recipe
For frosting, I add this royal icing and crush several candy canes and sprinkle all over the sugar cookies. These are my favorite sugar cookies ever! You can use different food colorings on royal icing and decorate away. I simply prefer them this way.
Hope you enjoy! Please share your favorite Christmas cookies on comments below. I would love to know.
