Our family vacation this year was in Los Cabos San Lucas in Baja California Sur, Mexico. As you may already know, our family loves the ocean, whether it be Florida, Bahamas, Hawaii or Mexico. There is always so much fun getting to see the different oceans and beaches.
In all trips, not everything comes out as perfect or exactly as you planned. The only downside was my oldest daughter became sick and thanks to God, was not more than a stomach infection. My other two oldest had a couple of days with an upset stomach. So just to be cautious, if you and your family go to a different country, try and eat healthy food and in trusted restaurants. We tried to be cautious but towards the end, we believe it was the cheese and/or the ice cream that my children ate that made them sick. Thank God they are all doing better.
Overall, we had an amazing six days here and saw the most beautiful beaches. I had never seen waves as high as these in the Sea of Cortez. Our funnest moment was renting a glass bottom boat and going to Land’s End and seeing the Arch of San Lucas. The Arch is the region’s symbol, a rock forming an arch in jade colored waters of the Sea of Cortez and the blue deep water of the Pacific Ocean on the other side. Please remember that the currents can be strong so ask around if it is safe. Usually there will be a red flag if it is not safe to swim.
In addition, we visited Lover’s Beach and Divorce beach. Ha. We saw the most beautiful fish in the sea, pelicans on rocks and some seals sunning and barking on the rock formations. It was breathtaking!

We ate a several different restaurants but one of my favorites was “The Office” that is right on Medano Beach.
Also ate at a buffet at the Gran Mayan Hotel. This was a beautiful property.
Other things we enjoyed were my daughters and I went to town and had fish therapy done. It was a different experience! This is called icotherapy and is when fish named garra rufa fish eat away all your feet’s dead skin. It has other benefits as well.
Also, I had a Mexican lady at the beach braid my girl’s hair for $25 all three of them. They chose the braids that Shakira had in a picture they showed them. They looked so cute.
We stayed at the Hilton Los Cabos and they had excellent customer service. The rooms were beautiful and very clean. The beds and pillows were the most comfortable ever. The infinity pool and beach were amazing. We loved it there and would definitely recommend it. Below are some photos I took of hotel property. I especially loved our balcony and Oceanview room.
Lastly, we enjoyed some horseback riding on the beach. Whew, let me tell you, it was a rough ride! As gentle and trained as the horses were, it was a bit rougher than when I went horseback riding in Hawaii last year. My son and I really enjoyed it. The man in charge of the horses at the Hilton, trains them and lives in a ranch. Be careful when choosing where to horseback ride. There are some others that offer cheaper prices on the beaches; however, you cannot trust if the horses are trained and safe to ride. We scheduled the horseback riding with the concierge at the Hilton.
I would also like to mention that if you are a small family or a large one like ours (6 total), it may be best to rent a car. I received a corporate discount from my work; however, be aware that they will want to charge you for Mexican insurance upon arrival. We didn’t know until we arrived at the rental office. It is best to purchase this before your trip. If you want to take a taxi or a bus, it will be cheaper. We just decided to rent a car as a taxi would be expensive to drive to our hotel that was thirty minutes away, and for six people. In our opinion, we thought it was a bit safer to rent a car than a taxi.
In addition, we got some good flight deals through American Airlines. I have been on other airlines and always feel American is my top airline of choice. However, I do enjoy that AeroMexico gives us a nice sandwich to eat. Ha.
Like I mention in my past travel tips, always start saving for your family vacation ahead of time. We started doing this years ago since we have a large family. My husband and I have always worked hard and long hours to not take time and enjoy ourselves with our family. We feel we deserve it, even if we don’t always get to go out of town.
Your family time is important. Enjoy your loved ones today as tomorrow is not promised. Your children will remember the memories you create together, not the material things. Weather it be in a local city or out of town trip, enjoy each other!
Thank God, our trip was fun and safe. Let me know if you have any questions!
For now, let us enjoy the last bit of Summer that is left!
