We all buy fruit and vegetables and know we must wash them before eating. However, do we all know that all produce is covered with wax and pesticides? In addition, there are many forms of bacteria found on these crops before they are in our supermarkets.
There are many vegetable and fruit washes to purchase from. For a fraction of the cost, you can make your own homemade wash! Here I show you how I make my own fruit and vegetable wash in my sink.
This recipe can be used with several batches of fruit. This will help keep the food longer due to the fact that it washes off germs and pathogens that can cause mold or rotting. The vinegar is anti-bacterial and lemon is a natural astringent.
- 1 lemon or 4 drops of lemon essential oil (I purchase doTerra essential oils)
- 1 cup of white vinegar
- sink full of water
- Fill your kitchen sink with warm water.
- Add 1 cup of white vinegar and lemon drops. Stir.
- Add fruit and vegetables. Let soak for 10 minutes.
These are great for berries as it keeps them from molding. Strawberries can last for weeks. After pat drying them with a paper towel, store your fruit and vegetables in glass containers to conserve freshness!
