Growing up, I was always the chubby one. My sister was always thinner than me, and I was always the one with bigger cheeks. Being only eleven months apart, we were like twins. She was always by my side. With that being said, my sister never knew I had low self-esteem. I was just very self-conscious about my body due to the fact that I would be called nicknames all through my childhood. As I became a teenager, I thinned out (thank God) and started loving my body. I was far from perfect; however, the same nickname calling and the embarrassment I felt receiving as a little girl, motivated me to love myself more as I grew older. I was a thin teenager and was motivated to always feel my best. Now that I am married, twenty-three years and four children later, my body has obviously changed. I am not terribly overweight but I could use less pounds. However, I instill in myself to be happy above all things and to not pay so much attention to always trying to be thin.
As a busy mom who works over forty hours a week, and running a household, believe me, it can get crazy! Luckily, I have a very supportive husband who always wants me to feel good about myself and do what it takes to achieve my goals. There are moments when I forget and want to just give up working on myself. I suddenly then, quickly remind myself that thanks to our God almighty, I have health and four awesome kids who need me healthy and present for them.
So the message to myself and all blessed Mamas out there: Love Yourself! No matter what size we are, how we look, what is in our bank account or where we live, we need to love ourselves and just be happy. We will never turn back time and tomorrow is never promised. We need to live for today and focus on only what truly is important.
I would like to show you my main fifteen reasons to love ourselves! Remember that we are a living reflection of what our children see. They learn from seeing us. Please start immediately:
- Remember who your Creator is!
- Love yourself now
- Be yourself (everyone else is taken!)
- Think positive
- Face your fears
- Do what makes you happy
- Never give up on your dreams
- Don’t compare yourself to others
- Create your own beauty
- Stay strong
- Focus on your strengths
- Invest in yourself (you can afford it, trust me)
- The minute you are comfortable inside, the outside will shine!
- Accept your imperfections
- Exercise for 30 minutes, you will feel amazing!
Don’t wait another minute. Each of you have a purpose. Don’t waste time regretting or wishing! Love yourself now. You are beautiful!
